Short biography:
Kiai Haji Ahmad Dahlan was a cleric, Islamic reformer, and founder of Muhammadiyah in Yogyakarta on November 18, 1912. He was born with the name Muhammad Darwis in Kampung Kauman, Yogyakarta, and studied Islam in Mecca. Ahmad Dahlan's thoughts were inspired by Islamic reformer figures such as Muhammad Abduh and Jamaluddin al-Afghani. Ahmad Dahlan introduced a modern education method that integrated religious and general knowledge and founded a women's organization, Aisyiyah, in 1917. He was also known as a successful entrepreneur in the batik trade. Ahmad Dahlan died on February 23, 1923 in Yogyakarta and was awarded the title of National Hero of Indonesia.
