COLLECTION WEEDING: UMM Library’s Effort to Maintain the Relevance of Library Materials

The Library of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is conducting a collection weeding activity as part of its efforts to enhance the quality of information services for library users. This activity began on Monday, January 5, 2026, and will continue until completion, taking place at the UMM Library, Malang.

Weeding is the process of selecting and withdrawing library materials that are outdated, damaged, or no longer relevant to current academic needs. Through this activity, the library seeks to ensure that its collection remains up-to-date, accurate, and aligned with the development of knowledge.

The Head of the UMM Library stated that the weeding activity is carried out periodically, involving librarians and taking into account the curriculum as well as the needs of the academic community. In addition to updating the collection, this activity also aims to reorganize library spaces to create a more comfortable and efficient environment.

In connection with the implementation of this activity, the UMM Library apologizes for any inconvenience that students may experience during the weeding process. Through this initiative, the UMM Library is expected to continue supporting education, research, and community service in an optimal manner.
